At Tensile, we always use Jakob materials for barriers, balustrades, green facades and many other types of projects. Jakob’s products are made from 316-grade stainless steel and provide the longevity, strength, flexibility and weather-resistance required for medium to large-scale installations.
Now for the first time in 22 years, the Jakob GreenSolutions system has been updated. The system is the industry standard worldwide, thanks to its Swiss precision and adaptability, so we’re pretty excited about the changes!
What is Jakob GreenSolutions?
This green solutions system is designed to assist in developing green infrastructure projects such as green facades, walls and vertical gardens.
The system is a kit composed of different components with the same wire and thread size, with each part being interchangeable where required.
This makes it integrative, expandable, modular, and very adaptable to a wide range of projects. It also means the system you use in your project can be either out-of-the-box or custom designed for your specific requirements.
The range of parts in the system has been updated and optimised in response to need – for the first time since 1998.
Another change is that for the first time, Jakob’s Webnet mesh has been included in panels in the kit, along with corresponding connectors and spacers.
Webnet is ideal for medium to large size trellises, especially where dense green coverage is required. The cable diameters and aperture sizes have been developed with climbing plants in mind and the loads they can create in green facades.
Jakob’s GreenSolutions is suitable for many projects
Jakob GreenSolutions is suitable for many types of green infrastructure projects – from light construction using simple cables through to large-scale projects that require dense greening.
At Tensile, we have specialised in many green infrastructure projects using Jakob’s system over the years. Here are some examples.
One Central Park, Sydney
The green facade at One Central Park is a huge installation, one of the biggest in the world. It comprises over 15,000m of stainless steel cables and 2,500 climbing plants over 34 storeys.
Naturally, a project of this size and complexity required a bespoke solution. It also involved doing research beforehand into wind patterns and plant habits at high levels. Information from these studies have since been used when designing and developing other large projects.
Platinum Tower, Melbourne
This 1700m2 green facade spans over 9 storeys and comprises 3mm stainless steel wire set in a customised zig-zag pattern – which was pre-formed before installation.
The climbing plants were also pre-grown offsite. This meant that around half of the coverage required was achieved from the very start of the installation.
