Last year, Tensile was invited to undertake design and construction of a webnet mesh green structure for the Redman Plaza revitalisation project at Dee Why, on Sydney’s northern beaches.
We consider it a privilege to have this opportunity to work with Tract Landscape Architects, Landscape Solutions and Fleetwood on such an important project, and things have been going very well.
An update on Tensile’s part of the project
The $2.5 million Redman Plaza revamp includes hanging gardens and a water feature, suspended lighting, artwork and shade structures. The aim of the project is to transform what was considered a drab space into one that is vibrant and welcoming, where people will want to visit and linger.
Our brief was to install a mesh screen in the plaza with columns for climbing plants. Fytogreen supplied the planters, which have now been placed on the columns and will grow into the mesh over time.
Webnet ID plates have also been added as a decorative feature, and to create a shadow effect over time as plant growth occurs.
Our aim was to provide a structure that appears streamlined, elegant and effortless, belying its complexity. This is typical of many of Tensile’s projects, and is something we specialise in.
The overall vision of the plaza project
The revamp of the pedestrian plaza forms part of a larger plan for Dee Why by Northern Beaches Council. It’s hoped that creating an attractive and inviting space will help to facilitate social interaction, encourage investment and stimulate the local economy.
Council’s 20-year town-centre masterplan also includes upgrades of local parks, streetscapes and footpaths, as well as the installation of artworks and extra seating.
